For decades, the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) has remained committed to strengthening labour administration systems across English-speaking Africa through high-quality capacity-building programmes. Since its establishment, ARLAC has empowered thousands of labour administrators and social partners with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to make informed contributions to labour policy discussions and the effective implementation of labour administration functions.
One of ARLAC’s flagship capacity-building initiatives, the Basic Labour Market Course, equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of labour market governance, labour administration systems, industrial relations, labour inspection, social security, employment promotion, labour migration, gender equality, and international labour standards. The programme is specifically designed to strengthen participants’ ability to contribute to the implementation of the ILO Decent Work Agenda and to support effective labour administration within their respective institutions.
Through a blend of residential and online learning, practical assignments, and interactive engagement with experienced facilitators, the course develops professionals who are better equipped to promote sound labour policies, improve compliance with labour legislation, facilitate social dialogue, and contribute to fair and productive labour markets. Upon completion, participants are expected to serve as reliable sources of information and expertise on labour relations, employment, labour market governance, working conditions, vocational training, and labour legislation within their organisations and countries.
As the world of work continues to evolve, ARLAC remains dedicated to developing competent labour administration professionals capable of responding to emerging labour market challenges and advancing decent work across the African continent.
